What is Sensory Play + Dino Peas Play Tray
Why Sensory Play? 🦖
Sensory play opens up so many opportunities to learn and play.
Babies and young children are sensory learners and we can see this from a very young age; they learn about objects not so much by feeling with their hands as putting it straight in their mouths to feel and taste new things!
Sensory play is just that - it involves the senses! Taste, Smell, Sight, Sound & Touch
"Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction." - Educational Play Care
Take for example this frozen peas play tray... The peas provide a great 'taste-safe' (taste) play option (always supervise and be careful of choking hazards), the frozen peas are cold to touch (touch) and crunchy to chew (taste) when frozen and get warmer and softer (touch) as the water defrosts them. The peas are bright and colourful to look at (sight) and also fun to run your fingers through (touch). When dropped while frozen, they will make a sound like a pebble dropping, yet when defrosted will make a completely different sound (sound). Frozen peas also have a very distinct smell! (smell).
Such a fun way to play and involve all the senses!
